Q1. Write four features of third generation of computers.

Ans – Features of third generation of computers :-

  1. Integrated Circuits were developed during this generation of computers.

  2. In this generation of computers , High Level Languages were used.

  3. The size of this generation of computers was so small that they could be fit to small file cabinets.

  4. IBM – 360 , ICL 1900, etc are the examples of this generation of computers.

Q2. Write four features of fourth generation of computers.

Ans – Features of third generation of computers :-

  1. Microprocessors were used in this generation of computers.

  2. The portable computers were developed in this generation of computers.

  3. Different types of memories were developed in this generation of computer.

  4. Intel 4004, Macintosh , etc are examples of this generation of computer.

Q3. Define the following :-

  1. Napier’s Bones – It was developed by John Napier. It was made up of bones and rods. Each rod was used for multiplying and dividing numbers.

  2. Storage – A computer has a huge memory where if can store a large amount of data. We can also store data in secondary devices such as floppies, CDs , DVDs, Pen Drives etc.

  3. Diligence – A computer is free from tiredness , lack of concentration , fatigue etc. It can work for hours and hours continuously without creating an error.

  4. Versatility – It means the capacity to perform completely different type of work. It can do multiple tasks with the same efficiency.

Q4. Name the five generations of computers.

Ans – The five generations of computers are –

  1. First Generation ( 1940 – 1956 )

  2. Second Generation ( 1956 – 1964 )

  3. Third Generation ( 1964 – 1971 )

  4. Fourth Generation ( 1971 – Present )

  5. Fifth Generation ( Present and Beyond )
