Q1. What is the difference between rotation and revolution?

Ans – The movement of earth on its own axis is called rotation whereas the movement of earth around
the sun is called revolution.

Q2. What causes day and night?

Ans – Rotation causes day and night.

Q3. Why are the polar regions the coldest part of the Earth?

Ans – Poles are the coldest regions of the earth because the poles do not receive direct sunlight.

Q4. How do we get seasons?

Ans- Due to the earth’s rotation, one half of the earth is closer to the sun and in turn have longer and
brighter days whereas the other half is away from the sun and thus has longer and colder nights. Therefore, we enjoy different seasons.

Q5. What happens when an object moves away from us towards the horizon?

Ans – When an object moves away from us towards the horizon, it looks smaller in size and slowly disappears.

Q6. How is the stratosphere important for us?

Ans – Stratosphere prevents the harmful rays of the sun from reaching the earth’s surface
